A heart attack happens when the circulation of blood to the heart is get blocked. The blockage is usually a buildup of fat, cholesterol, or other  

substances, that form the plaque in arteries which use to feed the heart 

also known as coronary arteries. The plaque can rupture and create a lump that blocks the blood flow. This interrupted blood flow can destroy or damage the heart muscles.
